Breathe Your Biome
What does it mean to “breathe your biome”? Well, literally and figuratively, diversity is the spice of life, especially when it comes to the diversity of your microbiome. It’s likely you’ve heard about the ‘gut microbiome’, the collection of bacterial, fungi, protozoa, amoebas and more that live on and in our bodies to support a variety of biological functions that keep us alive and well.
We now know the microbiome to exist everywhere- skin, eyes, organs, gut, brain (yes- there’s even bacteria in the brain!) & more. Sure, there’s sophisticated supplements, gut healing protocols & fancy biohacking tools that ensure the promise of supporting a healthy gut, but what if all that’s just “extra”? Extra to the foundation of living a life connected to a healthy ecology.
I believe we’ve greatly over complicated things, removed ourselves from nature and sterilized our living environments all for the “advancements” of modern day living. In reality, we’ve created our own fragility by removing ourselves from the ecosystems that generate & support our resiliency.
The loss of biodiversity in nature is directly connected to the loss of biodiversity in the human body, which is inextricably connected to the rise in all chronic disease. When we are connected to nature, we care for nature, which in turn cares for us. This is the generative force of our healing.
So, how do you breathe in your biome? Getting yourself outside and into different ecosystems as often as possible! Taking time to forest bathe, sit on the earth, get your hands and feet dirty, reconnect with the electrical frequency (Schumann resonance) of the earth. Stop using antibiotic and antimicrobial everything. Stop killing the life that gives you life. Dance in the moonlight, look up at the stars. Get out of the concrete jungle every now and again (or spend time in your local park if nothing else!). Remember what it’s like to connect to the essence of you, without all the material stuff and fancy gadgets.
The more you connect with & breathe in your biome the more of yourself you will feel, I promise. You are not separate from nature, you are nature. This is foundational medicine. Foundational Medicine for Regenerative Healing.
If you’re not yet familiar with the work of Dr. Zach Bush, please do yourself a favor and engage with this brilliant mind. Here is a podcast interview of him discussing this very topic written about above.
Thank you for showing up in curiosity and with an open mind. May you feel more healing because of it.
